Eurac Research is a multidisciplinary research centre based in Bolzano, Italy, working on sustainable building technologies and energy-efficient solutions. It contributes to the Building Envelope Alliance with expertise in research, testing and innovation in the building envelope sector. Its research combines experimental testing, monitoring, modelling and real-building applications to evaluate and validate building-envelope components and systems.
Activities focus on assessing the performance of building envelope systems under laboratory and real operating conditions and the development of sustainable, resilient solutions. Researchers work across different scales, from components and systems to whole buildings, using testing, monitoring and simulation methods to evaluate performance, support innovation and generate evidence for decision-making.
Facilities and capabilities
- Full-scale outdoor testing of façade components and systems in real climate conditions
- Laboratory facilities for testing of envelope components under defined indoor conditions
- Monitoring and validation in real buildings for performance assessment through field measurements
- Measurement of thermal and moisture-related properties of building materials
- Durability and accelerated ageing testing of materials, building products and photovoltaic technologies
- Indoor air quality assessment and material emission testing
- Evaluation of how façade systems affect energy use, daylight, ventilation, indoor air quality and occupant comfort
- Solar factor (g-value) testing of glazing, shading devices and transparent façade components
- Monitoring and validation of innovative solutions in real buildings
This evidence-based approach to innovation links laboratory analysis with real conditions, to contribute to the development of high-performance building envelope solutions.
