TU Delft is the largest technical university in the Netherlands. The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment is one of the largest architecture faculties in Europe and conducts research and education in architecture, building technologies and the built environment.
Within the Building Envelope Alliance, TU Delft contributes through the Architectural Façades and Products Research Group. The group conducts research on building components and façade technologies, covering design, engineering, construction, resource efficiency and user-related aspects.
Research activities focus on façade design, structural design, climate design and computational design, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, circularity and efficient use of resources.
The group is also active in education and professional development through the MSc Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences programme and the development of lifelong learning resources.
Facilities and capabilities
- BK Labs, providing facilities for model making, additive manufacturing, milling, scanning, robotics, virtual reality and research on building technologies
- The Green Village, a living lab environment for testing and demonstrating sustainable innovations in real buildings and under real conditions
- MATELab for evaluating thermal, visual, acoustic and air-quality performance of building-envelope solutions, including user interaction and occupant response
- Living Lab infrastructure for long-term monitoring of energy performance and indoor environmental quality in buildings
- SMARTLab for testing and comparing smart control strategies for heating, cooling, daylight, lighting and ventilation systems
- Prototyping and experimental development of building components and façade solutions as part of research and education activities
